Electromagnetic Fields (EMF)
This is a basic definition of electromagnetic fields and how they are associated with paranormal investigations.
Ok let’s think of some things around your house that involve electricity…microwaves, alarm clocks, surge protectors,
fuse box, and so on. All of these produce an energy that you can not see, smell, or taste…electromagnetism. When
massive amounts of electromagnetism are exposed to human contact, some side effects could be paranoia, anxiety,
nausea, irritated skin, and many others.
I describe electromagnetic fields like as if you are burning a camp fire. The center of the fire is where it is the hottest
and also the source of the energy (example: Fuse Box). The heat is then radiated outwards in all directions. The
more you distance your self from the fire, the colder you are. This is the same principle with electromagnetic fields.
There is a field that radiates outwards from whatever electrical source is nearby, and then the field will dissipate the
more you distance yourself from the electrical source (example: The fire).
Now, how is all of this related to the paranormal field? Well in theory, when a spirit is trying to manifest itself, the spirit
(s) will draw energy towards themselves using whatever available source of energy that is around them or us. This is
why our batteries might temporarily die during an investigation. When manifestations are happening around you,
there is usually an electromagnetic presence that may move around the room that you could not see unless you had
an EMF detector.
Let’s go back to the camp fire. If you were to grab a log from the camp fire and hold it as a torch, which would then
be a different source of heat or energy that was removed from the main source (the camp fire). This would be a
representation of spirit manifestations. When you take a log on fire away from the camp fire, which is like a spirit
taking energy from your camera battery and taking it with them for as long as it lasts to whatever location it wants to
go. You basically have a mobile form of energy that will last temporarily, until another source of energy is needed for
resupply.
This is why we use EMF detectors. Prior to starting the investigation, we get a baseline reading of the place we are
investigating. Basically we go from room to room writing down EMF readings and form an average reading for each
room. We measure the wall readings for electrical wiring, electrical outlets, computers, microwaves, and anything in
each particular room that gives off a magnetic field. We will also take readings from the middle of the room where
there are no electrical appliances located.
This list of readings is then given to the person using the EMF detector for the investigation. During EVP (electronic
voice phenomena) sessions, you might all of a sudden start getting EMF readings, due to the spirit trying to
communicate. That person can then refer to the readings list and see what the base line readings were for that
particular room and compare the data.
The interesting thing about EMF’s produced by spirits is that the magnetic field can be mobile and move from room
to room. The magnetic fields that are produced by your household appliances never move. That electromagnetic
field that surrounds your computer will not leave the vicinity of the computer and relocate. But, EMF’s produced by
spirits will move around and sometimes lead you on a wild goose chase. Remember the camp fire? Wouldn’t that be
odd if the heat radiating from the fire all of a sudden started radiating heat inside your car parked near the fire?
That’s impossible right? With a fire, yes more than likely, but with electromagnetism those type scenarios play out all
the time in relation to paranormal active locations.
The earth emits its own form of magnetic fields, our atmosphere has an EMF presence, and our closest star The
Sun has major effects on electromagnetic fields. But, we will talk about that in another article tackling Solar and
Climate studies.
